About Dr. Baskin

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and specialist in the treatment of psychological trauma.  I'm skilled at working with a broad range of emotional and behavioral concerns, and I welcome the opportunity to learn more about you and what brought you to my site.  Whether you are looking for a focused short-term therapy, couples treatment, or long-term psychotherapy, asking for help is often the hardest step.

Approach to Treatment

My style as a therapist is collaborative, interactive, empathic, and non-judgmental.  I view psychotherapy as a vehicle for growth and change, and as a process that must be tailored to each individual’s needs and unique identity.  I like to begin with a brief phone consultation, followed by an extended first visit in which I carefully consider your reasons for seeking therapy and work with you to develop a personalized and holistic treatment plan.  I strongly believe that developing a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship is a vital part of treatment, and it is therefore essential that you find a therapist with whom you connect.  If after meeting it does not seem that I am the best fit for you and your needs, I will work with you to find an appropriate referral.

Healing From Trauma

As a trauma specialist, I provide treatment to people who have experienced physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse.  For those who have suffered prolonged, repeated trauma in their lives, the aftereffects are often complex and frequently misidentified.  These may include difficulty managing emotions, self-injury, severe anxiety and depression, chronic problems with identity and relationships, intense feelings of guilt and shame, substance abuse, and medically unexplained physical symptoms.  Through therapy, I create a safe and supportive space where the impact of trauma can be faced and explored, where fears and destructive behaviors can be overcome, and where patients can begin to re-establish a sense of safety and connectedness in the world.

Training & Education

I received my doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the PGSP-Stanford Consortium, completed my internship training at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, and received postdoctoral specialty training with the Victims of Violence Program at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School.  In addition to private practice I work as a psychologist at the Institute for Advanced Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, where I provide integrated mental health care for patients living with HIV/AIDS.
